Fabricating implant supported and retained prostheses utilizing titanium laser welding techniques, the team treatment planning approach.

Robert L. Schneider, DDS, MS
Danny Roberts, CDT

Fixed and removable implant supported and retained prostheses have traditionally been fabricated in the dental laboratory using a lost wax technique. Technology has changed to include several other techniques that potentially are superior to the traditional methods. Titanium is a very biocompatible and versatile material and when combined with laser welding techniques can yield a very well fitting, biocompatible and strong prosthesis. Team planning and fabrication techniques will be discussed along with clinical and laboratory steps and techniques. Multiple patients treated with fixed or removable prosthesis will be presented including both clinical and laboratory considerations. Several time and money saving techniques will be presented utilizing CAD/CAM milled and laser welding techniques.

  • OBJECTIVES:
  • The participant will understand the concept of implant supported and implant retained prostheses
  • The participant will know how to restore implant prostheses with titanium laser welded type restorations both fixed and removable
  • The attendee will become familiar with the diagnosis and treatment of the edentulous patient with these types of prostheses
  • At the completion of the program the attendee will become familiar with the techniques and communications required for successful completion of these type of restorations

Improved Shade Selection Techniques
and Aesthetic Observation

Mark Baker, CDT

Shade-selecting for laboratory fabricated restorations is a critical process when trying to satisfy both the patient’s expectations and individual case limitations. Shade selection maybe perceived secondary to the clinical process and often subjective, producing unpredictable results. This program offers participants improved communication techniques for dentist, technician, and dental-office team. Hands-on demonstrations will feature fast predictable techniques that promote improved shade consistency using the both VITA Classical and VITA 3D-Master® shade system guides. Additional considerations will include digital photography, material preferences for case planning with examples of use of the VITA Easyshade® Compact digital spectrophotometer.

The logical “Next Step in CAD/CAM laboratory fabrications”

Ed Flocken, CDT

The logical “Next Step “in CAD/CAM laboratory fabrications - Open Architecture and 5-Axis scanning integrated with 5-Axis milling. It is readily accepted that the future of dental technology lies with producing a myriad of laboratory dental products using CAD/CAM technologies to reduce labor and shorten turnaround time and increase profitability. While larger laboratories can more readily afford more expensive complex systems; what can smaller laboratories do to stay competitive? An affordable Open System that can be expanded using a 5-Axis scanner, to a 5-Axis mill, that is capable of outsourcing to wax and acrylic printers, as well as metal printers will give your laboratory an enormous edge when competing in today’s economy. Looking to the future; systems that can not only produce substructure frameworks, but have the capability to do implants and removable appliances completes the modern “CAD/CAM” elaboratory. Ed Flocken will give you a glimpse into the future of the “Next Step”-getting ready for the future!

Dry Stacking and Building for the Cheapskate a Demonstration

Mike Byczynski, CDT

This idea is not new but it’s hard to get anyone to teach this great technique. Most porcelain hawkers are paid by porcelain companies and those outfits don’t want you to know how to save money on porcelain. Dry stacking has virtually no loss of material. There is nothing left on the tray to wash off. Mike Byczynski, CDT is one of the cheapest guys around and he hates waste. He has been using this technique for over ten years with awesome results. In fact, he has just been asked to join the new Art Oral group headed by Ed McLaren and Klaus Muterties. The crazy thing is Mike sells MatchMaker porcelain, but as a technician his loyalties are to the technician, profit be damned. His partners may not let him do this class again because baby needs a new pair of shoes., in order to achieve predictable and desirable results for the patient

New Materials and
New Ways of Processing Removable

Kris E. Schermerhorn, CDT

There are some very exiting things happening in the removable industry.  New materials and new ways of processing those materials are advancing all the time. Don’t get left behind.  I will show the laboratory how to get metal out of the mouth so they can join the flexible revolution.

This course will show the laboratory’s what is needed to have the complete thermoplastics line in there laboratory.  There are so many materials to choose from and many different ways of processing them. I will teach the lab how to use the different materials available to them and talk about the best ways of processing those materials.  We will discuss cases that are basic as well as complicated cases using attachment.

Technicians will leave this course with a better understanding of the materials available to them and the best ways of processing them in there laboratory.  They will also be able to apply the right material for the specific situation.

The baby boomers are here and there will be more in the up coming years.  Removable appliances are in demand and will be in the future.  Move out of the nineteenth century and into the 21 century with your materials.  Don’t get left behind.
